This photo series is a result of my personal experience as a Brazilian expat living in Europe who visited Portugal for the first time. The pictures here presented invite the viewer to witness what I once witnessed with my own eyes for the first time – or did I? Isn’t it all what we see just a construction, a culmination of all what we’ve seen before?
A certain ambiguity is a common ground that tight these images together. They present a stretch of the reality and they do not aim to describe it or fill in the gap between what is real and what is my perception of it – they rather open up for new possibilities and interpretations that the viewer has the freedom to fill in. In this sense, all photographic work has a potential to be surreal, given that it never presents the facts – it is always a point of view which presents relationships between elements that once were part of the reality.
* This is part of an ongoing project, which I started editing and invited a friend to collaborate. Stay tuned!
So, it is time for some more night photography. And if you saw a bit of my posts before, you have seen that I usually like to take pictures at night.
Earlier this week I submitted some night photos to the Lensculture Streetphotography awards. You can see my photos here.
I particularly think it is nice to send some material, regardless of being published or chosen by their jury. It is a nice way to be part of a broad network and I found many cool subscriptions and references of other photographers too. So, that’s nice.
These pictures were not included, though. I just took them after my subscription 🙂
I have been digging in my files today and found these night shots from last winter, that haven’t been posted yet.
I’ve been focusing on my Instagram account recently, so if you wanna follow my posts, I suggest you to take a look there instead. But after working on a new layout for my page, I am quite motivated to reactivate and post more stuff here as well.
Have a good weekend!
For the first update here this year, I decided to look back to the pictures taken in 2016 and make a selection of 9 photos based on my instagram account. These are photos that somehow got more attention from the viewers.
I know that there are many factors that may play a role when it comes to the amount of “likes” a picture gets and in most of the cases it doesn’t mean anything, but I was curious if these photos had anything in common at all or if I could see a trend in terms of composition that could be related to them.
So, here they are:
Happy new year!
