Capturing the winter

A selection of my favorite shots from last autumn / winter here in Aarhus.

What winter means to you?

Things you only see at night

All you need is fog

These photos were all taken early on today. It was quite foggy here in Aarhus and I’ve been walking for hours taking pictures, with no route in mind. I just followed the light. Until my socks got wet from getting into weird places and I started freezing.

But it was a nice day.

Spooktober shots – top 10

The days are getting darker, it has been raining a lot.

Sometimes the rain lasts for days and most people would agree that there is nothing better than having a warm cup of coffee (or tea) and to binge-watch your favourite series on Netflix. But despite of all the cosiness of being home, there are beautiful things going on outside at this time of the year. I love to take pictures on the edge of darkness and to capture the autumn atmosphere, even though some days it does feel like it takes a great effort and I have to drag myself out of my comfort zone… Luckily I managed to go out and take my photo-walks on the neighbourhood. These are October’s favourites shots:

A trip to Lisbon

This photo series is a result of my personal experience as a Brazilian expat living in Europe who visited Portugal for the first time. The pictures here presented invite the viewer to witness what I once witnessed with my own eyes for the first time – or did I? Isn’t it all what we see just a construction, a culmination of all what we’ve seen before?

A certain ambiguity is a common ground that tight these images together. They present a stretch of the reality and they do not aim to describe it or fill in the gap between what is real and what is my perception of it – they rather open up for new possibilities and interpretations that the viewer has the freedom to fill in. In this sense, all photographic work has a potential to be surreal, given that it never presents the facts – it is always a point of view which presents relationships between elements that once were part of the reality.

* This is part of an ongoing project, which I started editing and invited a friend to collaborate. Stay tuned!

On going project: night photography

So, it is time for some more night photography. And if you saw a bit of my posts before, you have seen that I usually like to take pictures at night.

Earlier this week I submitted some night photos to the Lensculture Streetphotography awards. You can see my photos here.

I particularly think it is nice to send some material, regardless of being published or chosen by their jury. It is a nice way to be part of a broad network and I found many cool subscriptions and references of other photographers too. So, that’s nice.

These pictures were not included, though. I just took them after my subscription 🙂

Winter is my season

I somehow use to take more pictures during the winter. These pictures are from last winter, except the first one, which I took yesterday. I had a great evening with friends on the beach and got a cool shot when it finally got dark at around 23h. Not bad at all…

Night photography – part 2

I have been digging in my files today and found these night shots from last winter, that haven’t been posted yet.

I’ve been focusing on my Instagram account recently, so if you wanna follow my posts, I suggest you to take a look there instead. But after working on a new layout for my page, I am quite motivated to reactivate and post more stuff here as well.

Have a good weekend!
